The rising number of wasted plastic bottles and aluminium cans causes several issues in the modern society such as environmental harm. The high number is caused by the lack of awareness of recycling. To counter this problem a reverse vending machine prototype was proposed. The reverse vending machine can tackle the problem by providing a place to collect the used plastic bottles and aluminium cans before sending it to the recycling center. Furthermore, reverse vending machine can encourage the society to recycle more by providing incentive such as money for recycling. To help the reverse vending machine identify aluminium cans or plastic bottles, two different sensors was used. Moreover, to collect the collected plastic bottles and aluminium cans, a notification system was design for the reverse vending machine. The notification system will notify the operator when the container is full, the container is full if the sensor in the container detects the plastic bottle or aluminium can at a certain height of the container. The outcome of the project is a designed reverse vending machine that can identify different materials inserted into it, count the number of materials inserted into it and able to notify whenever the container of the reverse vending machine is full.en_US
