Abstract
Renewable energy is not something new, as we already found way to utilise energy from the sun, wind, wave and so on. Green energy is becoming the new form of energy, replacing fossil fuels gradually due to its non-polluting nature. In this technical paper, method of energy harvesting from rain with impact-based piezo will be discussed. For the purpose of modelling continuous flow of water is assumed to be rain water which will activates the piezo transducer. Piezoelectric transducer is a crystalized structure that converts ambient mechanical force applied to it to electrical energy. Piezo transducers are capable of generating sufficient energy that can be stored for later use such as for mobile charging. The model of rain energy harvesting system's output voltage is used to charge a Li-ion mobile battery. Simulation is also conducted in the Proteus ISIS 7 to show the functionality of the proposed rectifier circuits. The comparison among the simulated rectifier circuits and necessary results were obtained and recorded. In this dissertation, the model of rain energy harvesting system will be developed with detailed explanation on the components that used to develop the model. Major discussion will be compromising the components involved in developing the rain energy harvesting system consists of piezo transducer, the rectifier circuit and the energy storage device.
