This thesis reports the experiment study on piles under lateral silty soil movement. The project was conducted in Universiti Tenaga Nasional Civil Engineering Laboratory. To determining the lateral forces develop along the piles under lateral silty soil movement, a large direct shear box test with 20mm diameter with 460mm length mild steel model pile is use with different pile configuration. The data obtain from the test will be evaluate to investigate the behaviour of piles under lateral soil movement. The parametric study was carried out to determine the effect of pile head condition, type of pile, pile spacing and distance from piles to pusher plate on model pile under lateral silty soil movement. The measure forces were then comparing with the forces calculated by estimating the lateral force acting on piles. The effects of the configuration can be observed with the experiment data. It is concluded that the large direct shear box test was able to estimate the lateral force acting on piles.
