Abstract
Most of the GIS in TNB used for analog metering to measure the density of the gases in five or six compartments depend on type of GIS used in TNB substation. At this moment, Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) monitoring system being used by TNB is impractical. The indicator of alarm only reacts when the density of gas in the compartment of GIS is either lower or higher than a certain pre-set values, in fact the indicator just indicates the gas density is in which state either normal, low or high. Furthermore, the value of gas density is not indicated on the control room unless a personnel measure the reading at the GIS room. The project has successfully developed the transmitter and the receiver for a gas monitoring system. The gas density monitoring at GIS substation was enhanced by installing a sensor that is connected to a PC so that user can monitor the level of gas pressure continuously.
