Abstract
This thesis report presents ‘Feasibility Study of Solar Powered Thermoelectric Refrigeration System’. The main objective for this project that need to be completed is to produce chilled water below 10 ̊C powered by using solar energy as power source. In order to accomplish this objective, a numerous of research was conducted in the initial stage. Afterwards, suitable devices and components were chosen to design a thermoelectric refrigeration system powered by solar energy. The design of thermoelectric refrigeration system powered by solar energy is included of several main devices which are photovoltaic (PV) solar panel, solar inverter, variable power supply and thermoelectric cooler (TEC).Several experiments were conducted to investigate the cooling rate of water by using two different water pumps and power sources in production of 2.5 litre and 5 litre of water. Additionally, cost analysis was performed with the intention of comparing the cost required by using solar energy and electric energy as main power source. This is because, majority of users agreed that by using solar energy is cheaper compare to electric energy in long run, but some of them denied about it. So, this analysis was conducted to study whether it’s expensive or cheap in long-term. The final phase, which is conclusion with further improvements on the system and device were illustrated to promote the application of TEC powered by solar energy in the industry.
