Abstract
This thesis focuses on the flexural behavior of green bricks improved with elephant grass ash. This study is done to optimize the mix design of green bricks enhanced with elephant grass ash based on flexural strength characterization and evaluate the mechanical properties of the green bricks improved with elephant grass ash. The green bricks were prepared by using calcium oxide, sand and elephant grass ash. The amount of ash ranges from 0.25 % to 1.5 % of the weight of calcium oxide. The laboratory testing of the bricks includes ultrasonic-pulse test, water absorption test, shrinkage test and flexural strength test. It is observed that the bricks with a higher amount of ash showed a better performance in terms of ultrasonic-pulse velocity test and flexural strength test. This is due to the void in the brick are reduced when more ash is implemented. However, an increase in amount of elephant grass ash also resulted the water absorption of the green brick to increase.
