Abstract
Oil palm frond fiber filler used as natural fiber mix with Polypropylene (PP) to create composite that low cost. Silane treatment used to improve the mechanical properties and swelling behavior of PP and oil palm frond fiber filler composite. 3- Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (3-APE) treated and untreated composite we prepared in formulation of 5 wt%, 10 wt%, 15 wt% and 20 wt% filler loading. The mechanical testing show that composite with 5 wt% has the optimum value of tensile strength, and the 3-APE treated composite create tensile strength compare to untreated composite. By increasing of filler loading, elastic modulus was increases while elongation percentage before failure was decrease. The swelling behavior test discerned that the increase of filler loading, increase the water absorption of composites and the present of 3-APE reduced equilibrium water absorption percentage.
