Nanocomposite formulation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic acid was developed by the intercalation of 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic anion into Zn-Al-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The resulting layered organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposite material was formed using 2-beta-naphthoxyacetic acid as guest anion intercalated into the Zn-Al layered double hydroxide inorganic host by microwave-assisted irradiation compared to conventional oil-bath shaker method. As a result of successful intercalation of 2-beta- naphthoxyacetic ion into the interlayer structure of Zn-Al-LDH, an expansion of the interlayer spacing, from 9.8 A in the layered double hydroxide to 21 A in the nanocomposite (ZAB) could be observed in the powder X-ray diffractogram. In Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), ZAB exhibits FTIR absorption bands characteristic of both BNOA and ZAL functional groups. This shows that synthesis of nanocomposite using microwave-irradiation method can be perform in shorter period compared to conventional oil-bath shaker method.
