Abstract
Piling construction are always the best solution to solve the problem that ground condition at the selected site do not have enough geotechnical capacity. In Malaysia, the tradition and efficient method and standard used is known as British Standard. The method that being adopted are too conservative and do not consider some of the soil parameter and pile testing. Thus, a newly recognized codes has been introduced into the industry which is known as Eurocode 7. In the project, a six-storey apartment has been proposed to build on the selected site. The column loading of the apartment has been provided by the structural engineer. The main objective of the project is to design the pile foundation using British Standard and also Eurocode 7. In the design stage, Semi- Empirical Method has been adopted foe the design as the bedrock level in then site given is very shallow. In the design stage, the subsurface investigation data and the soil parameter generated by the lab test has been provided. The range of design included the calculation of soil shaft resistance, rock base resistance and also rock socket needed foe rock shaft resistance. After the design, the result generated by BS and also EC7 will be compare and discuss. The range of comparison included the safety factor adopted, pile design method, soil parameter used and also costing of the pile construction. All the data generated has been compared and summaries out in a table and figure form.
