Abstract
There are many constraints and assumptions need to be done to design a complete heat exchanger. There are two method can be considered to design heat exchanger which Log mean temperature difference (LMTD) and the number of transfer unit(NTU). Log mean temperature difference method was use to design in current study. This heat exchanger consist of a 48 tubes which each have 0.039 m and 0.036 m as outer and inner diameter. The tube length is set as 1 metre and carbon steel use as a material to manufacture the tube. For the shell side, it has a outer diameter and inner diameter of 0.506 m and 0.500 respectively. The length of the upper shell is 1.381 m. The overall heat transfer coefficient is 52.36 W/m2.K. To enchance the performance of the heat exchanger a pressure valve is include in design to maintain the inner pressure of the heat exchanger. Economic analysis is showing that there are 22.36% of saving by using this device. As a recommendation, computional fluid dynamics (CFD) can be done as to further improvise the heat exchanger.
