Abstract
Even though, solar PV system have become common in power generation, the relationship between current standards and previous studies pertaining protections against transient faults are not yet established in detail, especially for grounding of solar power plant. Thus, a case study to establish relationships between standards and previous studies available for the grounding system of a solar power plant under transient fault has been carried out. In this dissertation, a 2MW solar farm in Selangor is used as a model for simulation using CDEGS. The solar farm model created is tested under transient fault limited to obtaining only touch voltages, step voltages and ground potential rise (GPR). For the transient fault, the lightning impulse is based on Heidler function and the parameters for the function are based on the IEC 62305-1. Analysis on the model created was carried out such as testing with different current injection points, using different soil resistivities and modelled using different number of conductors, which will identify the relevancy of the standards and findings from previous studies to the solar farm grounding model created. Recommendations relating to this case study are also included.
