Abstract
This research investigates the Sound Absorption Coefficient (a) of Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) fiber with density of 140 kg/m3 which were fabricated at four different thickness of 14 mm, 15 mm, 16 mm and 17 mm. Urea Formaldehyde (UF) glue was used as binder with amount of 20% from fiber weight. Then, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) test was conducted to study the morphology of EFB fiber. It was found that the EFB morphology consists numerous silica-bodies visible on vascular strand with hard and rough characteristics which contributes to better sound absorption due to higher surface friction.
