Abstract
As the load demand increase, the national grid of power supply is vulnerable to any fault if the protection system is not reinforced to deal with that matter. Overcurrent relay is one of the main protective relay that been used to protect the power system network. As the topology of the power system always changing, the old fashion protective relay cannot tolerate with the unpredetermined fault. The use of digital protective relay has been proposed in order to deal with the abnormal faults. The coordination of relays is really important in order to isolate faults, hence it is vital to determine the time multiplier setting (TMS) of relays to maintain the coordination. The dual simplex linear programming method been proposed to solve for the optimality of TMS value with short period of time. The digital relay must have the ability to adapt the power system topology in order to protect the grid from abnormal faults. Fuzzy logic system is the method that will provides the decision making for the relay to react to various type of faults by maintaining the possibilities of shortest time delay for the relay to operate.
