This thesis describes the efforts for reducing waste in aluminum beverage can manufacturing. There are several proposals aimed at reducing waste during the fabrication process, namely, can end design optimization, improvement in the can printing technology, controlling the undesirable effects of earing through metallurgical methods and lastly, better quality control using state-of-art vision system. The arguments are presented according to Total Quality Management (TQM)'s Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model. This ensures that the improvements suggested are easily understood, applied and allow continual improvement of the proposals. This project holds an exciting purview due to the gargantuan size of the industry which translates a small improvement in each can into millions of dollars worth of savings.
