The conventional Static compensator which is a device from FACTS family can be very useful for solving power disturbances and improves stability of transmission system. It consist of 6 inverters which requires bulky and complex configuration patterns for the whole system to be produced successfully. However, the application are rather simpler compared to other advanced and sophisticated STATCOM. Moreover, they are slow in response due to simple configuration and are thus unsuitable for fast changing power flow in a transmission line. It has been realized that the use of multilevel inverters, which results in multi-level STATCOM will offers better and various benefits over the conventional converters. Coupling transformer and complex pulse generations which are complicated and bulky can be avoided with the same output. A five-level cascaded Half-Bridge STATCOM is proposed to simulate and validate the functionality and capability of 5-level STATCOM in mitigating power disturbances along with an appropriate control circuit for reactive power harmonization with the system.en_US
