Transportation sector in Malaysia has dominated fossil fuel consumption and has been the second largest carbon emission after energy sector. Malaysia has been recorded as the second largest per capita carbon emission in the South East Asia region. Currently, the carbon emission in Malaysia's transportation sector has been rise at an alarming rate. Therefore, the need to replace the conventional internal combustion engine vehicle to a cleaner transportation is extremely sought after. The focus of this paper is to analyze the impact of electric vehicles (EVs) employment on the road towards carbon emission reduction. Due to the fact that EVs have zero tailpipe emission; a well-to-tank (WTT), tank-to-wheel (TTW) and life cycle analysis (LCA) of EVs was conducted. The study found that EVs is in fact able to reduce carbon emission. However, with improvement in electric power station by utilizing greener renewable sources the carbon emission reduction would be more significant.
