dc.description.abstract | Metal weldment failures are the most popular reason in the industrial world which contributes to accidents. Welding of pipe with other type of structures or with another pipe is the most commonly done work in the industries of oil and gas and many others. To investigate the strength of the weldment layer on the shielded metal are welding (SMAW) and metal inert gas welding a few procedures were followed. This is because both welding methods are different in the way it is done and finished. Different type of welding will have different strength properties and differs in welding content. Therefore, two types of NDT methods will be performed on the mild steel pipes namely dye- penetrant testing and radiography on both the SMAW and MIG weldment layers. A tensile testing conducted for both of the welded pipe to prove which type of welding is stronger than the other one. Hence a conclusion can be made on which type of welding gives a strong weldment layer to join the pipes. | |
