This thesis primarily focuses on the surface preparation of kenaf fibre and its influence in impact strength of the kenaf polyester composites. The thesis begins with discussion on kenaf fiber and its applications. The current and potential application of kenaf have been identified and the possibilities of kenaf fiber composites with great impact strength have been discussed. This thesis covers chemical treatment to improve adhesiveness of Kenaf. Alkaline treatment have been suggested by the author to enhance bond between polymer and fibre. Then the author shows the method used in this experiment. The casting method was studied and composites fabricated via this method. The author suspects that with the proper surface treatment of Kenaf the impact strength of Kenaf Polyester composites can be increased. Test conducted on finding impact strength been discussed. Charpy impact test been conducted using standard ASTM D 6110 used to find the impact strength of fabricated composites. The author recommends future studies and studies which can be conducted that might led to Kenaf application in various industries.
