Sound insulator is a substance that can reduce sound pressure. The usage of fiberglass can prompt medical issue to human being and the raw material cost for fiberglass production is high. A study was carried out the use of natural fiber as an alternative way for sound insulator. Oil Palm Trunk (OPT) is abundantly available since Malaysia is the largest producer of oil palm indutries. Furthermore, the raw material of OPT have a potential value added product such as wooden decoration, particleboard, wooden furniture, plywood and fiberboard and it is less expensive. This study was aimed at solely researching the acoustics properties of OPT natural fibers and its ability to be used as a substitute of fiberglass. The OPT fiber sample were prepared using the method of fabrication of Low-Density Fiberboard (LDP). The fabrication involves chipping process, refining process, glue blending process, mat forming process, pre-pessing process and hot pressing process. Hence, The Optimum SAC (a) of OPT fiber has been found for sample with the thickness of 16 mm in density of 180 kn/m3. The microstructure of OPT fiber in different thickness has been observed that contain the contents of parenchyma and vascular bundle. Mechanical testing showed the thicker the sample the lower the deformation. The sample made of OPT natural fiber showed good acoustic properties and can used to be an alternative replacement of systhetic based commercial product.
