Abstract
The increasing of global warming wakes up the entire population of the planet to reduce the total usage of fossil fuel and coal burning for energy generation. All governments around the world are trying to find another way to replace its dependency those natural resources. One of the methods to achieve this is by using renewable resources to generate electricity and replace the old one that pollutes the environment. Renewable energy (RE) such as solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and hydro are clean, abundant and inexhaustible in nature; which makes them the best option to replace the current ones. With that being said, the cost in implementing renewable energy projects in the country is quite high right now which makes it harder to do. This thesis aims to build a system that can predict and simulate the solar photovoltaic energy generation based on theoretical modelling which can help to see whether it is right to implement solar PV system at a certain place. A lot of work had been done to achieve this. The developed simulation software will use the measurement of solar irradiance and ambient temperature to simulate the power than be generated by a pre-defined PV system over time. The system is then being compared with two actual PV systems than are installed at UNITEN in order to validate its accuracy. The system was found to be accurate to be used.
