Abstract
In this project, the pre-treatment process which is acid esterification will be conducted to reduce the FFA below 1%. In previous studies, researchers have been done acid esterification of fish oil using methanol and yet there are no significant studies of the esterification process using ethanol. The main objective use of ethanol as an acohol, because ethanol is commonly used alcohol in food beverage process. The project experiment has been carried out in the lab scale process. The project experiment result shows a highly significant reduction in FFA and high rate of ethyl yield has been obtained compared to previous studies. Last but not least, further development for this project has been suggested to improve more the FFA reduction as well to obtain high rate of ethyl ester yield.
