Abstract
ABSTRACT In recent years, considerable attentions have been paid to graphene quantum dots (GQDs) due to their excellent properties. In this study, an effective green synthesis method for the preparation of GQDs was developed using natural cellulose polymer as a precursor. The reaction system is only composed of cellulose and water, in absence of harsh chemicals. The synthesised GQDs were structurally characterised by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Atomic force microscopy (AFM). The GQDs were optically characterised under ultraviolet (UV). TEM and AFM analysis indicated size, shape and mono-dispersed nature of nanomaterials with structural information. The analysis indicates the average height of the cellulose based GQDs was 4.742 nm. The optical properties reveal the bright green luminescent nature of graphene quantum dots. This research not only develops a sustainable route for GQD's green synthesis, but also finds a renewable resource as raw material that significantly facilitates GQDs extensive applications in biological fields.
