In this dissertation, the study emphasizes more to the enhancement on the efficiency on the second generation thin-film solar technology of copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) and the considerations on finding an alternative substitute buffer layer for the cell due to the toxicity concern caused by the cadmium sulphide material. Narrowing on the study aspects in this project, the conventional CIGS buffer layer is made from a toxic material which is harmful towards the environment, thus it has been suggested the replacing CdS with another Cd-free buffer layer would reduce the concern.en_US
