The current dependency on fossil fuel such as gas, coal and petroleum for energy generation has caused severe irreversible effects to the world. On top of that, fossil fuel is at the brink of depletion since the estimated number of years of fossil fuel reserves is just over 70 years on average before it is completely gone. The usage of renewable energy sources such as solar, biomass, etc. could help to overcome this problem. Thermal energy storage could store thermal energy for later usage. In this project, each type of thermal energy storage system that are readily available in the industry are studied and compared. The thermal energy storage system is then simulated using MATLAB Simulink to simulate how the system works and results for this simulation are obtained. In the interest of fulfilling the objectives of this project, a thermal energy storage system utilizing heat exchangers as heat storage for space heating of a house is developed. It is found that the system could support the house heating system functions.en_US
