Abstract
Bio-oil can be extracted from plastic waste and biomass. This study is conducted to extract bio-oil from plastic waste and biomass through a process called pyrolysis. In Malaysia, plastic waste is a serious issue since most of the plastic waste have shown to originate from other country around the globe. This problem can lead to detrimental environmental problem if no actions are taken by the government seriously. Moreover, co-pyrolysis between plastic waste and biomass is able to increase the bio-oil yield production and able to mitigate the plastic waste problem in Malaysia. This study also focusses on the characterization and evaluation of the plastic and biomass composition namely High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET), Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) and Rice Husk using Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) the results from the FTIR analysis shows that biomass sample produce high bio-char compared to plastic sample which is why the mixing of biomass and plastics is able to reduce the energy decomposition and the excess waste of bio-char.
