Abstract
Tribology is the study of friction, wear and lubrication. Friction can be good and bad, in some situations friction is very much needed to prevent accident or unwanted occurrence. Wear is a situation where the materials are losing their particles due to friction, this will affect the performance and efficiency. The purpose of studying Tribology is to control the friction and reduce the wear rate by using lubrication. When Tribology and electronic are integrated together it will become Tribotronic, Tribotronic is about analyzing Tribological quantities using electronic devices. By using software and programs, the behavior of Tribological quantities can be observed and analyzed. The device to measure the quantities is called a Tribometer, there are many types of Tribometer but the one that is used for this project is a Pin-On-Disk Tribometer. The Pin-On-Disk Tribometer comes with software itself to measure the parameters via a load cell that is attached to the pin. This project is about creating an algorithm using MATLAB to replace the provided software by the supplier. The purpose of doing this is because there are a few limitations on the software provided by supplier. Overall, this project is more on software based, the overall objective is to create an algorithm to retrieve friction force occurs on the Pin-On- Disk Tribometer and display it in a graphical form. An overall process will be discussed throughout this thesis.
