Abstract
A cyclone dust collector is usually used to maintain air quality for different working environments. Contrary to previous studies, the efficiency of the cyclone dust collector has always been very high. But most of the previous studies were only using the same air velocity and the same dust particles or substance. This study is done to understand the characteristic behaviour of different dust substances reacting to different air velocities. The substances used are different in the sense of size particle and density. The studies conducted in this research will help future cyclone dust collector designers to understand the characteristics of different dust particles behaviour when different air velocity is supplied. It will also help us to choose the right motor by comparing its air speed delivery. This experiment shows that with three different air velocities 5.5, m/s, 10, m/s, and 17.5, m/s supplied to the system, we will get different efficiency,% value for each of the substance. For the air velocity of 5.5, m/s, the system has the highest filtering efficiency when collecting wheat flour which was 99.17, %. Compared to its lowest efficiency when collecting powder which is 93.37, %. For the air velocity of 10, m/s the highest filtering efficiency recorded was for aluminium oxide 98.83, % compared to the lowest efficiency which was powder 97.6, %. For the air velocity of 17.5 m/s, the highest efficiency was recorded when the system was filtering powder particles which was 98.7, % compared to the lowest collected which was wheat flour 93.37, %. From this study we will get to determine the particle size and density contributes to the efficiency of the system when different air velocities are applied in the system. The settling velocities of particle will also add to the efficiency of the cyclone dust collecting system.
