Abstract
Vibration absorber is one of the mechanical device that is used to reduce or eliminate any unwanted vibration. The system that consists of its own mass, spring and damper and are attached to the primary mass to absorb any unwanted vibration. Normally, the vibration absorber is applied in vibrating machinery. The constant speed from operated machinery will eventually vibrated and the vibration absorber will eliminate the unwanted vibration and this because vibration absorber is tuned to specific frequencies and is effectively only over a narrow band of frequencies. The application of vibration absorber can be seen in the usage of cutting saws, sanders and also reciprocated and large internal combustion engine that runs at constant velocity.
There are many ways to absorb vibration. There are also many materials that can be used as vibration absorber. One of the material that can be used is an elastomer. Elastomer has the characteristics of high elongation and flexibility or elasticity against breaking and cracking. This elastomer is definitely a good vibration absorber. There are many different type and shape of elastomer.
The capabilities of elastomers to be good vibration absorber can be determined through studying the behaviour of its natural frequency. The difference in type and shape of elastomer will affect the behaviour of natural frequency. In this project, experiment are conducted to investigate the relationship between the multilayer of different diameter of elastomers and natural frequency of vibration absorber.
