| dc.description.abstract | This thesis reports the study of damage severity level in a Sheet Moulding Compound composite. A Sheet Moulding Compound, often abbreviated for SMC, has become one of the many classical composite techniques common for closed compression molding. This study takes into consideration the exposure of several SMC samples of all same dimensions of 12cm by 10cm by 0.5cm length, with each sample being introduced to a different amount of a calculable impact force and thereafter the relationship between the damage severity levels established via one of the most increasingly popular and useful Non Destructive Testing method, thermography imaging. The calculated impact forces applied to test samples were of a range of 9.813 to 78.475J. Therefore in addition to what was used and how the results were obtained, this thesis also presents knowledge that had been discovered relative to meeting the targeted aims of the study. | |
