Abstract
The purpose of this project is to create an improvement of a typical rubbish can using a smart system with a solar energized compactor that aims to eliminate greenhouse gas emission and trash collection costs and improve understanding of the evolving solar power capabilities. It is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly by reducing the size of garbage. This project is supported by an ultrasonic sensor that interfaces with Arduino UNO in order to verify the amount of waste filled in the rubbish can. The rubbish can have an ultrasonic sensor connected to its lids to detect the amount of waste inside the bin and once it reaches the maximum capacity, it sends a signal to the Arduino UNO and a compactor used to compress the trash. This rubbish can use the solar panel as the main supply to run the compactor motor and has a battery as a secondary supply in the event that the solar system can not be used. Solar system can not function during cloudy days because there is no sun, hence the battery will store the energy supplied by the solar system and will be used. Using the solar as the source of supply has many benefits and most importantly, it can assist to preserve the environment as a renewable energy is solar.
