Abstract
In view of the proximity of maintenance staff carrying out the racking-in and racking-out operation of vacuum circuit breaker carriages, the system should be reliable for different types of vacuum circuit breakers used at all times. The main design revolves around the development of an adjustable edge holding mechanism that is able to withstand the force of extraction and is flexible to fit various types of circuit breakers. The mechanism should also be user friendly, perform minimal manual during the racking operation and also provide quick release grip. Based on this criteria, several concept design and different parts were produced and developed. The best design were chose based on proper evaluation. The mechanism developed has an extension rod lock to grip different size of the console. A spring is used to apply constant forces on the gripping ends to hold the console and to gain a quick release grip mechanism for faster process. Material selection has been set to minimize cost while meeting product performance goals. To ensure that the design were acceptable in terms of pricing, cost analysis were applied for this project. Further stress analysis were carried out to fulfil the required pull or push force for racking operation.
