Abstract
This project is regarding 3D woven material that has been enhanced with natural fillers. Main objectives for this project are to fabricate the 3D composite material, Evaluate the mechanical properties and characterize the properties of 3D composite material. Nowadays, 2D composite material’s technology is widely use in the industry. The problems that we encounter are 2D material’s fibers quantity is lower in vertical direction. Thus, it causes unfavourable of mechanical performance due to low impact damage resistance. In addition, fabrication of 2D material is time consuming and high in cost. For my project scope, there will be reviewing some researches and literature review for the past experiments, lab testing and standardization. Next, market price for material purchasing is surveyed. Other than that, 3D woven material will be fabricated, and 3 lab testing will be done. The results from the tests will be analysed and concluded. In order to achieve the objective, data is collected, and mechanical testing is done. Mechanical testing that will be used in this project are compression test, Charpy impact test and three-point bending test. The results are analysed and discussed in the thesis. The conclusions are made, and we can figure out whether adding the natural fillers to 3D woven material is good or not for its mechanical properties.
