Abstract
Reliability centred maintenance (RCM) is a type of analysis methods to an assessment of maintenance. It can be described as a kind of strategy for maintenance management. The most basic principle of the RCM is how to make analysis and the action required to be taken toward a system in order to preserve and sustain the reliability of that system. The chosen system for this project is distribution substation. In distribution substation, there a lot of complex equipments integrated together with respective function to fulfil its role as a power distributor. Thus, a lot of maintenance is required just to ensure the system is in good condition and be able to serve as what it is supposed to be. The issue is what kind of mechanism is required to increase the overall effectiveness of maintenance resources. Regarding this issue, RCM acts as maintenance management medium in order to centralized all the maintenance work and tasks which consists of failure symptoms, the effects of failure, the criticality of the components as well as recommendation of intervention which in turn would increase the efficiency of maintenance. Successful implementation of RCM would lead to increase in cost effectiveness, machine uptime, as well as better understanding of the risk level.
