Abstract
Recently there are few occurrences of flood and landslides disasters around the world
and in Malaysia. Heavy rainfall not only causes flood but also induced landslide. The disasters had caused loss of lives, damage to properties, loss of income and spread of diseases. This project looks into the causes of such disasters, the rescue plans, the correlation between rainfall and slope stability. It attempts to estimate the losses using FLEMO model.
Flood is a very serious disaster that happened all over the world. Due to the slope instability causing by flood, normally landslide will be induced once after the flood happened. Both of the events involve a very huge amount of damage loss to the public and government. In this project, two case studies had been chosen to be a research purpose as both of the place had a very serious flood and landslide disasters happened before. The author chose Sri Lanka for the first case study and Gujarat as the second case study. Both of the locations locate in the same country which is India. This is a well known natural disasters happened country and it always involve a lot of damage loss even human lives because the country having a huge population of peoples. The author had use FLEMO model to calculate the estimate potential loss which consider both direct damages and potential damages. The author did the research in order to find out the reason of the both case happened. Generally, both of the cases are induced by the flood disasters so that the slope stability had been affected.
