Abstract
This study has been carried out to achieve the three main objectives, which is to study the suitable material for fire protection shield, analyse the durability of selected materials against high temperatures of fire and design appropriate fire protection shields for the use of fire fighting robots. The literature review made is based on three principles which are fire protection shield, robot with fire extinguisher system and robot with autonomous system. Four materials have been selected, namely aluminium, paper fire log, cotton wool and melamine foam. Fire resistance test were conducted on aluminium, while heat resistance test were carried out on paper fire log, cotton wool and melamine foam. The findings of temperature at the prototype body layer were used as a reference to the ability of heat insulating materials. Conclusions are made by comparing the best ability of insulating materials to control heat from reaching critical components.
