Heavy metals contamination into the wastewater have been increasing due to the industrial wastes’ discharges. This thesis reports the assessment of the chemical precipitation of nickel heavy metal from electroplating real spent rinse wastewater using soda ash (Na2CO3). This study states that the objective is to determine the use of soda ash (Na2CO3) in the removal of nickel heavy metal from the real spent rinse wastewater through chemical precipitation method. This also emphasizes on the effects of pH, time of reaction, volume and concentration of precipitation on the removal efficiency of nickel. The concentration of 0.1M of soda ash was prepared. The industrial wastewater sample was added to the soda ash to measure the value of pH and Ni2+ concentration’s initial and after 30mins, 1hr, 2hrs, 3hrs and 4hrs for each sample. A total of 10 different volumes were used for testing and a total of 3 sets were recorded, calculated and various graphs were plotted based on the results. These tests were done to see if the data obtained and calculated comply with the required specifications of the wastewater standards. The time of reaction affected the pH value but did not affect the concentration of nickel. The treated sample can be discharged according to the Malaysian wastewater discharge standard because the pH in this experiment have been optimum which are from 6 to 10 and the optimum nickel concentration value was achieved which is 0.2 ppm. However, it is recommended that more researches should be executed on this areaen_US
