Abstract
This thesis presents the application of Multistage Artificial Immune System (MAIS) optimization algorithm to solve the Distributed Generation (DG) installation problems in the transmission network. MAIS algorithm is developed using the MATLAB programming language and the IEEE 26-Bus Reliability Test System, (RTS) is used for the implementation. Furthermore, the IEEE 26-Bus Reliability Test System consist of three different sizes of DGs (DG1, DG2 and DG3), which can be classified into three main categories which are small (0.005MW-5MW), medium (5MW-50MW), and large (50MW-300MW). Once the MAIS is developed, the performance of the MAIS is tested based on three case studies which are Base Case, (N-1) Line Contingency and (N-2) Line Contingency. The results obtained from the MAIS is then compared and analysed with a single Artificial Immune System (AIS) optimization technique. It is found that the MAIS optimization technique outperformed the AIS optimization technique during the analysis of the results based on the different case studies.
