This thesis generally reports the effect of magnetic solid acid catalyst produced from banana peels on the fatty acid reduction of oleic acid. Waste banana peels are dumbed and contributed to a large quantity of waste. Thus, this project will utilize the biomass produced to, in return produce a beneficial pre-treated product which will be used to produce biodiesel in later stages. In this project, waste banana peels were used as raw material to produce a new magnetic solid acid catalyst via sulfonation. The magnetic solid acid catalyst derived from waste banana peels were used to catalyze esterification of oleic acid, respectively to reduce its free fatty acids content. This pre-treatment process is vital in order to produce a good yield of biodiesel. In conclusion, the presence of magnetic solid acid catalyst derived from waste banana peels can enhance the pre-treatment steps in biodiesel production.
