Abstract
Concrete are very useful in the infrastructure industry worldwide which most of the construction works depends on the very high level of the concrete. The partial replacement of cement with Corn Husks Ash (CHA) will meet the current demand for the strong and good concrete. In this study, partial replacement of cement with Corn Husks Ash were fabricated to form concrete using a casting method with 3, 7 and 28 days curing. Various composition percentage of Corn Husks Ash (0%, 5% and 10%) were formed in order to investigate the effect of amount of Corn Husks Ash on the mechanical properties of the concrete. Three different concrete size and shape were produced including concrete cube, concrete prisms and concrete cylinder. The concrete sample were tested using Slump test, Compression test, Hammer rebound test and Flexural and Tensile test to study the changes in their respective mechanical properties. Result shows that addition of Corn Husks Ash increase the workability, compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength of thw concrete. In contrast, futher increase in percentage of CHA which is 10 % CHA replacement reduce the mechanical properties of the concrete as well as the slump value. The amount of the CHA in concrete show profound effect in the mechanical properties of the concrete. CHA up to 5 % replacement is acceptable of cement for concrete production is in order to improve strength. The best combination of cement/ CHA is 95 % cement and 5 % CHA. Thus, the replacement of cement with Corn Husks Ash have a potential to be used in Civil Engineering field by varying percentage.
