Abstract
Palm oil has a plenty of potential in the biofuel industry and it can benefit Malaysia’s economic sector massively. This study carried out an investigation on the ultimate analysis from oil palm residues such as, Dabai , Rice Husk, EFB using the ASTM standards. The results obtained were compared. The amount of mass of EFB is 0.158 g and the percentage of Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen are 45.79%, 6.638% and 0.4272%. The amount of mass of Rice Husk was 0.2044 g and the percentage of Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen are 36.24%, 5.544% and 0.3123. There were several plastic components also investigated and the results were compared such as PP, HDPE and PET. The amount of mass of PP was 0.1571g and the percentage of Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen was 85.39%, 16.8% and -0.1249%. The amount of mass of HDPE was 0.1241g and the percentage of Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen was 80.52%, 13.48% and -0.0439%. The amount of mass of PET was 0.1530g and the percentage of Carbon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen was 59.91%, 4.805% and -0.0264%. There was real no significant reduction in emission of sulphur gases between the EFB and the raw residues except for the PET, PP and HDPE plastic. Essentially, from the general results obtained from the analysis, it can be deduced that oil palm are more suitable for boilers in steam power plants because palm oil is eco-friendly and it is closer towards renewable energy sources which do not pollute the country.
