Nowadays many works have been undertaken in order to understand the nature of EL in polymeric materials and its relationship with electrical ageing. This paper attempts to lay down the basic theory of the mechanism accountable for the phenomenon and relate it with some experimental observations made on polymers such as cross linked polyethylene (XLPE). In this study we have develop Matlab coding of electroluminescence as a pre-breakdown effect in polymers due to the application of high electrical stress using Matlab software. Due to the result, we can conclude that there is a possible shift in EL peaks when the applied voltage and phase angle is varied. Besides that the time duration for shift in EL peaks becomes shorter.en_US
