Abstract
The purpose of this project is to develop an alloy using Iron, Copper and Aluminium powder through warm compaction route. Iron ASC 100.29, Copper and Aluminium powder were mixed together and the powder mass was compacted at elevated temperature in generating green compact. The green compact was sintered at argon gas fired the furnace by varying the holding time and sintering temperature. The sintered product was characterized through XRD, SEM, hardness and bending testing. From the experiment, it's found that high composition of aluminium and copper in the Iron-based alloy causes the sample expands in dimension with high ductility. From XRD pattern, all elements in the samples appeared and single face fcc Cu and bec Fe(Al) solid solution was found. While, through SEM micrograph, high sintering temperature caused the reduction of pores and loss of grain boundaries in the sample. The metal elements also distributed uniformly. The combination of the iron, copper and aluminium powder at 90 minutes sintering holding time produced the best mechanical and physical properties where the alloy is light weight, high strength and ductility.
