Abstract
In all rotating machinery, the small clearance position between the surface of the rotor and the stator often cause rub impact. Such occurrence or phenomenon in industry is significant to investigate from time to time. This thesis presents on a numerical study undertaken to investigate stability analysis of a rub-impact Jeffcott rotor-bearing system. A mathematical model for the system has developed at the beginning stage and come out with governed equations of motion for rub-impact Jeffcott rotor-bearing system. The governing equations for the system are coded and integrated using MATLAB/ Simulink package. The main concern in this research is on stability of rub-impact Jeffcott rotor bearing system is to be determined by means of Floquet theory. The analysis will make use Floquet multipliers to determine the critical value of operating parameters and provide the mechanism of losing stability. The outcomes of Floquet multipliers are then verified using numerical integration method, specifically utilizing bifurcation diagram. Nonlinear dynamic tools based on the time-series graph, orbit diagram, Poincare Map, and power spectrum graph by a set of fixed and variable parameter for the system are used to analyze specific rotor response. Therefore this analysis will give a useful insight in varying operating parameters of rotor-bearing system.
