Disturbance on sinusoidal voltage supply from utility will affect the operation of sensitive equipment and loads. In this work, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is connected to grid system to provide voltage sag mitigation. This power quality issue is caused by pulse loads connected at grid side. Bidirectional buck boost DC-DC converter controls power flow of battery to DC link considering the state of charge (SOC) of the battery. DC-AC Inverter connecting DC link to the grid used to control the amount of power fed to the AC grid. Control strategies for the charging and discharging of the battery and active power and reactive power (PQ) control are applied. Cascaded loops with PI controllers are used. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery type is chose as the energy storage. The system is modeled in MATLAB Simulink. Simulation results used to validate the overall performance is presented and discussed.en_US
